Notes
Decklists
- 8 different archetypes made Top 8, something that had not occurred at a major event since 2017's Sydney Regionals.)
Bert Wolters, 1st - Buzzwole-GX/Lycanroc-GX
Player notes:
- This was a "straightforward and effective list" inspired by lists from Andrew Mahone and Pablo Meza.
Sen Caubergh, 2nd - VikaBulu
Player notes:
- "I never needed a 4th Grubbin. As for the 3 Field Blower, play against Garbotoxin and Parallel and you will be happy you have an extra out."
- "I wouldn't make any changes. My 61st card would be a fourth N."
- "Against Gardy you want to poke 30/60 with a Bulu. They would need a combo of Max Potion, DCE, Fairy, Fairy & Choice Band to KO you back which is a lot to ask for. Even if they have Energy attached to one of their gardy they would first have to discard the Energy and hit all those ressources. If they don't heal, you can KO them with a Bulu and leave no energy on the board. You are faster and can take KO's on Lele or on Ralts before they evolve, but never leave Energy on the board. So basically if they draw everything, you can't win. But this happens rarely."
- "I don't understand how you could play without Brigette, it is just so strong and consistent."
- "Mew is mostly there for free retreat and as a non-GX attacker. It hits for weakness on Buzzwole, and can Encounter for a Vikavolt/Tapu Lele. It's also good against Wobbuffet/Hoopa."
Jonathan Hansen, 3rd - Greninja BREAK
Patrick Landis, 7th - Volcanion/Turtonator-GX
Adam Hawkins, 8th - Zoroark-GX/Golisopod-GX/techs
Player notes:
- "Went 6-2-1 Day 1 and 3-0-2 Day 2 Swiss, losing to [Greninja BREAK] in Top 8"
Steffen Eriksen, 9th, and Sander Wojcik, 20th - Hoopa/Wobbuffet BREAK
Wojcik's notes (minor edits for clarity):
- "Wobbuffet BREAK survives Zoroark-GX's Riotous Beating, Golisopod-GX's First Impression and Armor Press, Gallade's Sensitive Blade, Volcanion-EX's Volcanic Heat, and Tapu Bulu-GX's Nature's Judgment without the discard. Tanking a hit against those is huge for a deck that just needs to buy time for Lusamine chaining. Wobbuffet is possibly the best Ability lock left in the format, and Wobbuffet BREAK is way more reliable to build around than Fighting Fury Belt, which can be Blowered off at any point."
- "With Counter Energy and Kukui, Wobb can start to put on some counter pressure, specifically against Gallade and Mew FAC in VikaBulu (Kukui + Psychic Assault OHKOs it). Note that the raw draw from Kukui is helpful in a deck that often just wants to sit on what's in its hand."
- "Mewtwo can also OHKO the Mew in VikaBulu, and it can deal with promo Rockruff, Trashalanche Garbs with 2+ Energy, and possibly Buzzwole. Swinging with Psychic vs. a Gardy with 5 or more Energy (which they need to OHKO Wobb BREAK) also puts them into range of the Psychic Assault followup 2HKO from Wobb, and healing with Max Potion loses them their Energy either way. Barrier is also a situational attack to buy additional turns for Lusamine."
- "Mew EVO is specifically for Gardy to create more time and drain out resources, and can also occasionally KO VikaBulu's Mew FCO if needed."
- "Huge thanks to Steffen Eriksen for building the list with me -- happy with what we ended up with, although we both ended up missing that Top 8."
