Notes
- According to Stéphane Ivanoff, Semedo's win with an unusual deck "reminds me of the last time people underestimated a Gabriel Pino deck (WaterBox)."
- This was the largest-ever Regional in Brazil and the second-largest ever in all of South America. According to Charles Randall, who compiled some data on this (chart below), the attendance was "unprecedented." In 2016-2017, no Latin American Regional exceeded 300 Masters. No Brazilian Regional had ever had Day 2 Swiss. The average Masters attendance at Latin American Regionals in 2016-17 was 234.5; across two Regionals in 2017-18, it is up to 299.0.
Decklists
Gabriel Pino Semedo, 1st - Gardevoir-GX/Diancie/Miltank CRI
Nicolas Galaz, 6th - Buzzwole-GX/Lycanroc-GX
Notes:
- Not shown in the picture above, the 60th card is a Lycanroc BSH 75. World Champion Diego Cassiraga gave Galaz the idea for that inclusion, which is a tech to near-autowin the matchup against stall decks (a single attachment lets it OHKO Hoopa BSH and Xurkitree-GX).
Rodrigo Gianni Ferreira, 8th - "RegiLock" (1-Prize Walls)
Player notes:
- "The only bad matchup is Gardevoir-GX."
- Noted Sylveon-GX enthusiast Zander Bennett asked why this deck is better than Sylveon. Ferreira: "Sylveon gives up two Prizes and although it has more HP, it can still be OHKOd with Choice Band [while Regigigas with a Fighting Fury Belt can't].
