Decklists and analysis
Beedrill-EX gave Alex Hill
an answer to Garbotoxin.
Alex Hill piloted the latest take on his trusty PlumeBox deck, the original iteration of which was played to Top 4 at the 2016 World Championships by Sam Hough. Gone from Hough's list are the Yveltal-EX and the rotated Aegislash-EX; Hill has added a Beedrill-EX to deal with Garbodor by removing Float Stone to reactivate Item lock. Also note the Manaphy-EX, allowing for easy switching between attackers.

Meanwhile, Kevin Baxter and Sam Chen debuted an unusual Xerneas BREAK deck, with Baxter taking it into Day 2 and finishing 14th. The deck used the promo Snorlax-GX card, making Baxter the first player to make Day 2 with a GX Pokemon in his deck. Chen also became the first player to use a GX attack on stream, flipping over his GX counter for a massive Pulverizing Pancake GX, much to the appeal of the audience.

Trivia
  • The M Gardevoir-EX STS matchup is generally considered a terrible one for M Mewtwo-EX, but Mewtwo player Igor Costa was actually able to take town a Gardevoir (Connor Finton) in Top 4!
